Already after 3 seconds (standard) inactivity the
HDD is set to idle mode. In this mode the rotation
speed of the HDD is a bit lower than on normal
operation. This decreases the power consumption by
20%.

After around 3 minutes the HDD is almost shut down.
Only the electronics still work so that the cache
can be used on access. In this mode power reduction
is around 80%.
After 5 minutes the HDD is completely shut down.
Power consumption averages 7%. |
